How Did I Get Here, And Where Is The Next Turn?

The First Leg

This is going to be short, as we wait for supper.

I left my place at 5 a m, and by 6:30, the BFF and I were on our way, drinking coffee, chattering away, and singing with the radio. On the way to pick her up, I heard Ottis... Dock of the Bay. It seemed fitting, but I think our theme song for the trip so far is a toss up between that, and Drift Away. You know that one... "Give me the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rick and roll and drift away..." At one point, both of us singing along, she reached over and patted my shoulder. I patted her hand back. Man, after all we have been through, it is so great to get away.

We made it down with no mishaps so far, in great time. Less than 7 hours, with only 2 bathroom stops. I am still in awe at the beauty of this area. I have never actually seen wild palm trees before now. I can just imagine spring around here.

We first went to Alligator Alley. We only saw one, but it was enormous. We saw footprints in the mud, and maybe a few that might have been under water, but that was all. It was still a nice walk on the foot bridges. And the drivers are so nice about letting people cross the road around there.

Mobile Bay is hard to describe for me. We went to Fairhope to see the rose garden, and walked on the pier out over the bay. Mobile its self is just visible over on the other side. There is also this wonderful water fountain that I loved. We saw a pelican swimming around, a duck that spent more time under the water than above it, and what I think was a stork that never moved the entire time we watched it. The only thing wrong was the frigging sea gulls.

The BFF and her sister in law drove me nuts with the frigging camera, but other wise, so far, it has been a very nice, relaxing time since we arrived.

Tomorrow, there is talk of going over into Florida to see the Blue Angels, and the light house. Or, we may just go straight to the beach.

For my FB friends, I hope to get some pictures posted, or swiped from the BFF.

And now, I need to be social, finish my rum and coke, and get ready for shrimp... Oh, and play with Sophie, their fabulous dog. TTFN...
